Little Penguin Meeting Summary for May 2024
The meeting at Eden Library on May 25, 2024, chaired by Wendy Noble. Attendees included Deb Keys, Julian Webb, Jo Garton, Leo Berzins, Symony Douglas, and Rachael Butterworth, with apologies from Chris Loyd, Robyn Kesby, and Nicholas Carlile.
An updated ECAC Volunteer Form has been created, which includes a need to investigate police check requirements. The VIP manual will be emailed to members, while reported progress on the Volunteer Code of Conduct and the development of a Chain of Command for VIP compliance.
The Wheel Cove Penguin Sound Attraction System faced issues with cable length and a flat battery. We will purchase a new battery, and the expense will be reported to ECAC. The system's relocation to a new position was noted, with additional repairs needed due to the harsh marine environment.
ECAC has agreed to Auspice the Little Penguin group, offering support for grants, insurance, and financial matters. A revised Volunteer Form and operating procedures are to be distributed. DK discussed account signatories and arrangements for transferring funds to the ECAC account, with gratitude expressed to donors and supporters.
We have explored penguin tracking opportunities with local charter operators. However, there was some hesitation from the Welcome Centre manager about promoting penguin visibility due to potential visitor expectations.
Funding applications were discussed and the possibility of incorporating historical elements into the group's logo. Discussions included applying for grants and seeking educational resources, with a focus on National Parks’ educational materials.
An update was provided on survey schedules and NPWS VIP portal requirements, with specific survey dates set and a need for a replacement surveyor in September.
The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 10am at Eden Library.
